Houston Dental Assistant School opens second location in Katy, Texas for training Dental Assistants in the Greater Houston Area The Woodlands, TX. — Beginning in March, 2009 the Houston Dental Assistant School will offer its Saturday training at two locations in the Houston area. The Texas Workforce Commission, Career School and Colleges approved Houston Dental Assistant School’s request to begin teaching Saturday Dental Assisting classes at Dr. Hugo E Artaza’s state-of-the-art new facility in Katy located at 21510 Kingsland Blvd.. Houston Dental Assistant School is pleased to present the TSBDE approved Dental Assistant registration course and exam on Friday, September 10, 2010 in cooperation with the Texas Academy of General Dentistry and Dr. Robert Cooley. State Board Registration is REQUIRED of all Texas Dental Assistants who take x-rays after September 1, 2007. To become registered, you will need to take and pass a TSBDE approved course and examination covering required objectives in Jurisprudence, Infection Control and Radiology. New hires have one year from the date of hire to register provided any x-rays taken are under the direct supervision of a Dentist. Dental Assistants

The Dental Assistant professional is a key member of the dental health care team. If you have good communication skills, enjoy working with your hands and your mind and want the responsibility and rewards of a professional career, dental assisting is for you. The best way to become a dental assistant is to receive formal training. Our program provides education that is based on the latest procedures and techniques.

As a Dental Assistant you will perform a variety of patient care and laboratory duties. Depending on the office you may:

Work chair-side as the dentists examine and treat patients;
Hand instruments and materials to dentists, keep patients' mouths dry and clear by using suction or other devices;
Sterilize and disinfect instruments and equipment, prepare tray setups for dental procedures;
Prepare materials for making impressions and restorations;
Expose radiographs and process dental x-ray film as directed by a dentist;
Comfort patients in the dental chair, prepare them for treatment, obtain dental records;
Instruct patients on postoperative and general health care;
Perform office duties including scheduling, insurance coding and billing, telephone.

Working Conditions

Dental assistants work in a well-lighted, clean environment.
Their work area is usually near the dental chair where they can work with the dentist and patient when needed.
Virtually all dental assistants work in a private dental office.
A small number work in dental schools, hospitals, public health departments, or clinics.
